[STEERLEB] – Student Engagement, Empowerment and Representation in Lebanese Universities

General Description: In Lebanon, student representation is, in most cases, based on traditional political divisions, themselves based on regional politics and influences. Students usually identify themselves as belonging to a certain political family, a choice depending mainly on deeply-rooted family habits and traditional affiliations. This situation therefore ignites frequent confrontations between groups of students during student elections and in-between. Within the frame of this project, European and Lebanese universities will exchange their experiences and share good practices in order to enhance student empowerment, engagement and representation in Lebanese universities

Objectives

The StEER-Leb project’s objective is to boost student empowerment, engagement and representation infrastructure in Lebanese universities.

Specific objectives are:

  • Improvement of campus-life in Lebanese universities
  • Organization of engagement activities by students for students
  • Representation of Lebanese student interests at the institutional and national levels
  • Development of new counterparts in the communication between the students and the State.
  • Improved communication between students and university staff and professors
  • Improved transparency of academic and administrative procedures
  • More sustained involvement of the students in the university development
  • Development of new communication and cooperation schemes between students of Lebanon and Europe
  • Increase of the initiative spirit and critical thinking skills among Lebanese students
  • Improvement and increase of diversity, inclusivity and tolerance on Lebanese campuses
