Physical exercise and pregnancy, a binomial to be tackled through international cooperation between universities

During the months of April and May, the University of Cadiz has been developing international cooperation actions between partners from Lithuania, Poland. Specifically, two events have been developed within the framework of the KA-203 Project “Innovative education for students of medical and health sciences, resulting to better adapt the didactic offer to the health needs of pregnant and post-pregnant women – INSTEpp Project”. The meetings have taken place at the University of Cadiz; firstly a transnational follow-up meeting between the partners involved at the end of April and secondly, a training course for visiting teachers and students, as well as local UCA teachers and students in the end of May.

The first was a transnational meeting, which took place between 25 and 29 April 2022. It was a multiplier event between the partners involved in the project, and was focused on the development and final coordination of the contents and lectures to be given to teachers and students within the main theme of the project.

A second event took place, 23-27 of May. within the framework of the development of the same INSTEpp project, and in this case it was a training course for teachers and students from Lithuania, Poland and Spain. The title of the course was “Specific multicomponent physical exercise programme during pregnancy and postpartum for pelvic floor muscles”. The language of the event and training was English in order to favour the interaction of the teaching-learning process. Three main blocks of work were given: scientific evidence, dry exercise programmes during pregnancy – postpartum and a final block of physical exercise and preparation for childbirth in a swimming pool. This last block took place in the Puerto Real sports complex of the University of Cadiz and was very well received by both students and teachers who received the training. A total of 15 students and 6 teachers from the countries involved received the training, and a total of 3 days were invested in its development.

The INSTEpp project, an Strategic Partnership modality, is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme and has a total budget of 300,926 euros, and it will be developed jointly with Polish, Italian partners and the University of Cádiz. The local work team of the University of Cadiz was formed by professors belonging to the area of Physiotherapy, in the Faculty of Nursing and Physiotherapy of the campus of Cadiz (Prof. Alejandro Galán Mercant, Prof. Gloria González Medina, Prof. José Antonio Moral-Muñoz, Prof. Verónica Pérez Cabezas, Prof. David Lucena Antón and Prof. Inés Carmona Barrientos).
