European Union: Further Information

Prior request, the European Commission coordinates assistance  , such as the provision of personal protective equipment, repatriation flights from beyond Europe, and co-finances the delivery of assistance from one country to another.

 European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO)  :Whenever there is a disaster or humanitarian emergency, the EU provides assistance to affected countries and populations.  Civil protection and humanitarian aid are complementary. In the case of humanitarian aid, the European Commission’s Civil Protection Operations and Humanitarian Aid department shares competence with the EU Member States and together they are one of the world’s leading humanitarian donors. As regards civil protection, the EU assumes a supporting role, coordinating voluntary contributions of in-kind assistance from countries participating in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.

 EU Civil Protection Mechanisms  :The general objective of this Mechanism is to strengthen cooperation between the EU Member States and 6 participating States in the field of civil protection, with a view to improving prevention, disaster preparedness and response. When the scale of an emergency overwhelms a country’s response capabilities, you can request assistance through the Mechanism. Through the Mechanism, the European Commission plays a key role in coordinating disaster response in Europe and beyond and contributes at least 75% of the transport and / or operational costs of deployments.

 Emergency Response Coordination Center (ERCC)  :It is the heart of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and coordinates the delivery of assistance to countries affected by disasters, such as relief items, experience, equipment civil protection and specialized teams. The center ensures rapid deployment of emergency aid and operates 24 hours a day. It can help any country within or outside the EU affected by a major disaster at the request of national authorities or a UN body.

 European Center for Disease Prevention and Control  :Contains the latest available public data on COVID-19, including a daily update of the situation, epidemiological curve and global geographic distribution (EU / EEA and the UK, worldwide). On February 12, 2020, the new coronavirus was named severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), while the disease associated with it is now known as COVID-19. The ECDC closely follows this outbreak and provides risk assessments to guide the EU Member States and the EU Commission in their response activities.

 European Health Information Portal:  The Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization (WHO / Europe) administers the European Health Information Portal. The portal brings together databases, reports, public health news, and interactive charts to deepen on published data.  The portal is available in English and Russian.

 European External Action Service (EEAS):It is the diplomatic service of the European Union. It helps the EU’s Head of Foreign Affairs, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, to carry out the Union’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.  Web intelligence for health emergencies MediSys:Free health information system that shows articles of interest to public health, grouped by type of disease. It analyzes news about global threats that include the outbreak of communicable diseases, risks related to chemical and nuclear accidents and terrorist attacks, that is, events that could have a general impact on the health of the European Community.
