It addresses the historical, epistemological and conceptual bases of nursing as a discipline and profession, with particular attention to nursing metaparadigms, conceptual models, middle-range theories, and their application to clinical reasoning and care planning. The course also explores methodological approaches to nursing care, including the nursing process, standardized nursing languages, evidence-based practice, person-centred care, and the integration of ethical, cultural and contextual factors in professional decision-making.
The participation of an international visiting professor would enrich the course by providing a comparative and international perspective on nursing knowledge, care models, methodological frameworks, and the development of professional competencies in nursing education. The activity would allow students to critically examine how nursing theories and care methodologies are applied in different healthcare and academic systems. |

| Comments | Virology is the study of viruses, their structure, classification, replication, evolution, and interactions with host organisms. A typical university virology course covers the different types of viral genomes (DNA and RNA), viral structure (capsid, envelope, and genetic material), and the viral life cycle, including attachment, entry, replication, assembly, and release from host cells. It also examines how viruses cause disease, how the immune system responds to infection, and the mechanisms viruses use to evade immunity. Students learn the major viral families affecting humans, animals, plants, and bacteria, as well as diagnostic techniques such as PCR and serological tests. The course also addresses antiviral drugs, vaccines, emerging viral diseases, viral evolution, epidemiology, and the use of viruses in biotechnology, such as gene therapy and vaccine development. | Comments | Session 1 – Ship power system and machine roles (2 hours) Overview of shipboard power systems (generation, distribution, main voltage levels, typical single-line diagrams). Main types of electrical machines on board (generators, motors, transformers) and their roles in propulsion and auxiliary services. Learning outcomes: Students identify the main components of a ship electrical plant and explain where and why different machines are used.Session 2 – Marine generators and power supply (2 hours) Basics of synchronous generators applied to ships (construction, operating principle, typical ratings and arrangements). Connection of generators to the ship grid: load sharing, basic protection concepts, voltage and frequency control. Learning outcomes: Students describe how ship generators operate in parallel and outline basic operational procedures for safe power supply.Session 3 – Motors for propulsion and auxiliaries (2 hours) Induction and synchronous motors for ship applications: main characteristics and typical power ranges. Examples of motor-driven equipment: propulsion drives, thrusters, pumps, fans, winches, cranes, steering gear. Learning outcomes: Students match motor types to typical shipboard applications and justify simple selection criteria (power, speed, duty).Session 4 – Practical aspects and case study (2 hours) Starting methods (DOL, star–delta, soft starter, variable speed drive) and their impact on the ship electrical network in simple terms. Reliability and maintenance basics: typical faults in marine electrical machines, importance of insulation, cooling, and regular inspections. Short case study: simplified analysis of the electrical machine configuration of a medium-size vessel (e.g., Ro-Pax or cargo ship) based on a block diagram. Learning outcomes: Students interpret a simple ship electrical diagram showing machines, discuss basic operational issues, and propose simple preventive measures. |
